Protect your rear axle and add serious strength without sacrificing ground clearance. The FGP Rear Axle Bash Plate (ABP) effectively doubles the thickness of the lower section of your 8” axle housing, reinforcing the most vulnerable area while keeping a low-profile design to preserve ground clearance. Unlike bulky bolt-on skids, this plate offers seamless protection and durability.

Fits all 8" Toyota axle housings from 1979-2002, as well as 8.2" and 8.4" axle housings.

Crafted from 1/8" P&O flat plate steel, the ABP is precision laser-cut for a consistent, clean fit every time. This skid plate reinforces the thin factory sheet metal where damage most commonly occurs and strengthens the area around the drain plug.

Installation Notes:
Professional installation is recommended. FGP is not liable for improper installs that may lead to vehicle damage. The ABP should be installed at the user’s discretion.

  • Drain differential fluid after installation and refill with fresh fluids. This prevents overheating during welding and minimizes the risk of fire inside the axle housing.
  • Remove the differential breather before welding. Heat can cause pressure buildup, potentially damaging axle seals.
  • Start by tacking the plate to the axle on the side with the drain plug, ensuring proper alignment. Gradually bend the plate around the axle, placing tack welds as needed. Light hammering may be required to shape the plate.
  • Weld the center strips first, ensuring solid contact with the axle.
  • Once the center is complete, hammer and roll the outer edges for a tight fit. Tack-weld the edges, then weld in 2-3 inch sections to prevent warping or overheating the axle housing.
  • After welding is complete, drain and refill the differential.
